Pronounced “kir-coo-bree“
Kirkcudbright has colourful houses, independent shops, a marina, a harbour and castle ruins overlooking the town. It’s a renowned artist town with art galleries to peruse. It’s also a classic harbour town famous for its scallop and lobster fishing.
We’ve visited Kirkcudbright in and out of season. In late November it was quiet, but still had plenty of shops open. Parking is easy in the car park at Beaconsfield Place. We enjoyed a few hours wandering around the local shops and harbor and had a basic, but tasty, lunch with friendly service at The Belfry Cafe. The castle (MacLellan’s Castle) was having some repairs, so we couldn’t get close to it, but hope to visit it in the future.
We also had some delicious cakes from The Paul Jones Bakery (and were spoiled for choice), we’ll definitely be making another visit there! ??
The Dark Space Planetarium is definitely worth a visit, and if gin is your tipple you may want to pop in to the Dark Arts Distillery too ?
We’re also looking forward to going to some of the galleries and checking out the other cafes and restaurants. We’ll update this post when we do!
