Luigi’s Restaurant in Dalbeattie Review

Inside at Luigi's Restaurant Dalbeattie

June 2024: Luigi’s appears to be closed. We’ll keep an eye on this and update this page if things change!

We visited Luigi’s Italian Restaurant on a midweek evening. It’s a small restaurant so we booked a table, but we could have just turned up as it was fairly quiet.

The outside of the restaurant looks like it needs some attention, but inside there’s interesting decor and a pleasant atmosphere. The lighting is quite low, which I’ve seen criticised in some reviews, but I prefer that than glaring.

There’s a separate vegan/vegetarian menu, but there’s a lot less choice for Vegetarians. However, there was enough for us to choose dishes we all wanted.

Between us we ordered a risotto, a pasta dish, 3 pizzas and a couple of sides, followed by desserts. The risotto was very tasty and the pasta dish (penne primavera) was nice, though nothing out of the ordinary, and I didn’t get the promised ‘hint’ of chillies. The stone baked pizzas were also very good. We had soft drinks and a carafe of the house red which was good. We finished off with desserts, roulade, cheesecake, profiteroles and tiramisu, which were all delicious. For our family of 5 the bill came to just over £100.

Everything was served quite quickly which worked well for us as the children accompanied us. Overall the whole meal was very nice and the staff were pleasant and attentive.

One minor criticism is that it was a little cold in there so I’d prefer the heating to be turned up slightly. To be fair though, it was a very cold December evening!

All in all a good meal and we’d happily return.

It’s only just over a 10 minute drive to Dalbeattie from the lodge. Also, there’s a free car park in Water St, which is a couple of minutes walk from Luigi’s front door.
