  • Enjoyed walking around the wee lock on-site (Heron, Swans, Dragonfly)
  • Nice private swimming session in the pool
  • We’d recommend the the Kirkcudbright Dark Space Planetarium, lots of fun educational activities and an impressive planetarium show
  • Also enjoyed the local beach

We enjoyed a comfortable stay in Serenity (love the fact you have Firefly box set DVDs* on the shelf – great series!)

*Glad you noticed 😉

Beautiful views… relaxing place to be

As we arrived at the site, I was immediately struck by the peaceful location. The lodge is situated on a hill and from the bedroom and lounge you have beautiful views, which can be improved on by moving to the balconies at the rear. It is a particularly nice place to be sat whilst reading a book. The lodge is very homely and although we were sharing with another family it still felt spacious. There is a large TV and DVD player in the lounge if you want to watch it but there are also games to keep you occupied. It is a relaxing place to be at the end of the day. We slept well in the beds as the mattresses are comfortable. The site has a restaurant and bar serving nice meals and drinks, along with a swimming pool which can be booked on an hourly basis for your family’s exclusive use.

The area has many nice places to visit without travelling very far. We enjoyed a walk up a local hill called Criffel. We took a pretty walk from Kippford to Rockcliffe and back. Sandyhills beach is a short walk away and you can walk along the coast. There is a deer park next door to the site that offers vehicle tours if you want to get closer to the animals. There is also a nice cafe there and we would recommend the one a short drive away in Colvend. If wandering around shops and stopping off in cafés is your thing then Castle Douglas and Kirkcudbright are easily reached from the site.

We had a mixture of weather during the week as it was April. On the whole we enjoyed a very relaxing week and definitely managed to switch off while we were there. Highly recommended!

Fabulous wee lodge for 2 adults and 4 children. Lovely & clean, well-equipped, warm & cosy. We’ll be back!  Perfect for holidays with families. Loved the kids room I slept here! So comfy!

The landscape was lovely wish we didn’t have to go and I loved the upstairs bedroom that slept 4 people and because it has a triangle roof!!!

Very pleasant stay. Very well equipped cabin, nothing to fault

Felt that a washing machine is needed, if even 3 nights stay.*

It’s our 3rd time in Barend and our 2nd time in this cabin, will definitely come back again.

Amazing scenery and places to see and visit.

*We are considering a washing machine in the future.

We have had a very relaxing stay; the whole place is quiet; the spot is perfect, overlooking a loch. This is definitely a perfect location to get away from the hustle and bustle; will definitely come back and recommend to our circle of friends!

*Sundries are provided by Barend Holiday Lodges: “The rental price includes bed linen; 1 hand and 1 bath towel for each guest (infants not included), plus one toilet roll per toilet and a basic kitchen pack. £35 per week pro rata is included for electric and gas.”

**Good idea, thanks!  We had to get a new tyre on one of our visits.

Our 5th time at Barend … No. 22 was excellent

Beagle open would be good.*

This is our 5th time at Barend and this year was no exception to yet another nicely presented [lodge].  No. 22 was excellent as well.

*This guest visited in between The Beagle closing and the pub reopening as The Crab Pot.  Sadly the Crab Pot has now closed too, but there are plans to use the space: Barend Wellbeing Centre

Sandyhills Beach – great for dogs

Bainloch Deer Park – lovely cafe but not dog friendly (we have 2 dogs).

As always we had a great stay at Barend and enjoyed your lodge.

Comfortable seating for 4 of us and ideal for all the lovely local walks with the dog. Great to visit all the old haunts that we know so well.

Will definitely be back!!
