Barend Loch, nestled peacefully within the tranquil surroundings of the lodges, provides an idyllic setting for carp fishing.

Just 100 metres away, only a 4 minute walk!

Guests at Serenity don’t need a permit, and can enjoy carp fishing right on the loch opposite the lodge (however please only use barbless hooks). Legend has it that a monster 14lb carp was even caught here!

Please also remember to be mindful of the swans, ducks and other wildlife that call the loch home.

Fishing at Fairgirth Trout Loch

0.5 miles ~2 min drive, 15 mins walk / Fairgirth Farm, Dumfries and Galloway, DG5 4NS

Fairgirth Trout Loch is a charming two-acre water surrounded by natural beauty. Anglers flock here for the serene atmosphere and the chance to reel in some impressive trout.

Key Features:

  • Fish Species: Rainbow, tiger and brown trout from 2lbs and 15lb.
  • Hours: Open seven days a week, starting from 7:00 am until dusk.
  • Tickets: A variety of four and six and hour tickets, plus day and season tickets are available. Must be purchased before starting to fish, and season tickets are available with a limit of two fish per week. Available from the local tackle shop M McCowan and Sons in Dalbeattie, as well as from La Bella Vista beauty salon in Dalbeattie.
  • Boat Available: Yes, you can also hire a boat.
  • Depth: Varies between 6 and 27 feet.
  • Flies and lures: Black Rabbit, Cat’s Whisker and Yellow Dancer work well, as well as buzzers, natural flies and nymphs. Barbless or crushed barbed hooks and conventional single hook flies only. All tiger, brown trout and rainbows over 5lbs must be returned after capture. Anglers are also not allowed to fish boobies or egg flies.

Greenhill Fishery

5.5 miles ~11 min drive / Greenhill Farm, A710 Coast Road, Dalbeattie, Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland

A perfect venue, 3 ponds offer private and secluded sport for beginners or experienced anglers.

Key Features:

  • Types: Coarse, fly and bait fishing for trout
  • Hours: Open all year from 8am until 30min prior to dusk or 7pm (last tickets sold at 4:30pm).
  • Tickets: Day ticket fishery.
  • Hire: Tackle and bait are also available.

Please note: Dogs are not permitted on the fishery and anglers under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
